The June 24 program at St. Paul’s Church, Harvard Square is one of many public events held in conjunction with the biennial national convention.

Concert presents the Handel and Haydn Period Instrument Orchestra and Chorus performing works by J.S. Bach and a seldom-heard cantata by C.P.E. Bach.

May 20, 2014 (Boston, MA) —  As it prepares for its upcoming Bicentennial Season, the Handel and Haydn Society continues to step up its community presence with a concert program at this year’s American Guild of Organists (AGO) National Convention in Boston.

The AGO convention, which will take place from June 23 to 27, will attract organists and other music-lovers from across North America and Europe for performances and worship, networking, and professional development. The H+H concerts on Tuesday, June 24 feature the Period Instrument Orchestra and Chorus at Cambridge’s historic St. Paul’s Church in Harvard Square. The hour-long program of sacred music by J.S. Bach and his son Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach will begin at 7:30pm and repeat at 9pm to accommodate conventioneers and the general public.

H+H Associate Conductor and Chorusmaster John Finney will lead the H+H musicians in C.P.E. Bach’s cantata Spiega, Ammonia fortunate (a work that has not likely been performed since 1770), J.S. Bach’s motet Komm, Jesu, komm, and J.S. Bach’s Missa Brevis in G Major. The vocal soloists for the June 24 program will come from the H+H Chorus.
