Andrew Schwartz

BASSOON

Andrew Schwartz is one of the most sought after musicians on historical instruments. He is currently principal bassoon with the Handel and Haydn Society, Philharmonia Baroque, Boston Baroque, Trinity Baroque Orchestra, American Classical Orchestra, and Smithsonian Chamber Music Society. He has also appeared with The Age of Enlightenment, Wiener Akademie, Cantata Collective, Tafelmusik, Apollo’s Fire, Portland Baroque, Blue Hill Bach, and Connecticut Early Music Festival.

He was principal bassoon of the Royal Drottningholm Court Theatre Orchestra in Stockholm, Sweden for fourteen seasons. Andrew has appeared as a soloist at Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center; The Morgan Library, New York; the Musikverien, Vienna, Austria; Symphony Hall and Jordan Hall, Boston, Mass. He has recorded extensively, including the entire chamber music works for winds and the late Operas of Mozart for Decca/ L’Oiseau Lyre.

In earlier years, Andrew played hundreds of performances with the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, was a member of the New York Chamber Soloists, principal bassoon with the Vermont Mozart Festival, the Jerusalem Symphony, and is still the solo bassoonist for the Little Orchestra Society in New York City. Currently on faculty of Oberlin College Baroque Performance Institute and the Longy School, he holds a bachelor and master’s degrees from the Juilliard School.
