WHAT DO YOU SUPPORT
WHEN YOU CONTRIBUTE TO THE
HANDEL AND HAYDN SOCIETY?

Your generosity helps to sustain a tradition of nearly two centuries of artistic excellence and innovation. Founded in Boston in 1815, the Handel and Haydn Society is one of America's oldest performing arts organizations. It has presented the American premiere performances of Handel's Messiah (1818), Haydn's The Creation (1819), Verdi's Requiem (1878), Bach's Mass in B-Minor (1887), and Bach's St. Matthew Passion (1889).

From 1986 to 2001, the Society's orchestra and chorus, led by Conductor Laureate Christopher Hogwood, became recognized as one of the premier period-instrument ensembles in the world. The Society presents a diverse repertoire that centers on music of the Baroque and Classical eras and includes opera and dance. The tradition of impeccable musicianship and innovative programming continued under the dynamic leadership of Maestro Grant Llewellyn from 2001 to 2006. In the 2006-2007 Season, legendary conductor Sir Roger Norrington became Artistic Advisor.

Parallel to its artistic activities, the Society is committed to fostering the love, knowledge, and performance of music among young people, especially those in under-served schools and communities. Your donation will also support the Educational Outreach Program, begun in 1986. In dozens of schools each year, entertaining and interactive music history and appreciation programs presented and performed by Handel and Haydn musicians reach thousands of students, providing some with their first and only exposure to classical music. Each year, in addition, the Society nurtures more than 150 "Vocal Apprentices" aged 6 to 18, who receive intensive voice training and participate in one of three different choral groups or a vocal soloists program. This training is enriched by a multiple of performance opportunities arranged for the choristers and soloists throughout the school year. In a third initiative, the Society brings together high school choruses from different schools to perform challenging classical repertoire together with professional musicians of the Handel and Haydn Society, under the direction of Associate Conductor John Finney.

Please join in supporting the Handel and Haydn tradition. Your generous gift will keep the music alive for concert audiences and young people alike!
