"Your concert has brought a new sense of
love for classical music in me. I will always remember
this concert and hope to participate in next year's concert."
-Rick Dong, Brockton High School
"This is my third year doing the concert
and I'm still thrilled to be a part of it! I love to
learn the Latin and hear all the contrasting voice parts."
-Alison Santry, Brockton High School
"All these experiences helps me to recognize that there are
different voices and different styles of songs that are beautiful
in their own way."
-Naomie Stilus, Brockton High School
Collaborative Youth Concerts provide students with a sense
of achievement and musical ownership in ways that traditional
youth concerts cannot, as high school choristers perform,
alongside the Handel and Haydn Society Orchestra and Chorus,
in concerts given in their own communities. For one young
singer, the chance to perform with Society musicians was "a
dream come true." For all, it is an opportunity to see,
first hand, how music enriches our communities and our lives.
An important element of the Handel and Haydn
Society Youth Concerts is the careful pairing of youth choruses;
a shared musical and cultural experience is the result. "It's
never awkward when the different schools come together, even
though they are from different backgrounds," said the
Music Director of the Quincy public schools. "Music brings
them together."
