
James Gilchrist began his working life as a doctor, turning
to a full-time career in music in 1996. His recent concert
appearances include Acis and Galatea at the Proms with the
Academy of Ancient Music, Bach cantatas with the Monteverdi
Choir and Orchestra in their celebrated Bach Pilgrimage,
The Pirates of Penzance and HMS Pinafore with the Scottish
Chamber Orchestra, Judas Maccabeus with The King’s
Consort, Mozart Requiem with the Seattle Symphony Orchestra,
L'Allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato and a televised performance
of Berlioz's L’enfance du Christ at the BBC Proms with
the Monteverdi Choir & Orchestra, Judas Maccabeus with
the Danish Radio Orchestra and Bach’s Christmas
Oratorio with Ton Koopman and the Tönhalle Orchestra in Zurich.
Operatic performances include Britten’s Turn of
the Screw with New Chamber Opera, Acis & Galatea at the Berlin
Staatsoper, and Evandre in Gluck’s Alceste at La Monnaie
in Brussels. Mr. Gilchrist has recorded extensively, including
Bach's St. Matthew Passion with the Gabrieli Consort and
conductor Paul McCreesh. These performances mark his debut
with the Handel and Haydn Society.

St. Matthew Passion on April 21 and 23, 2006.
