PLAN A LEGACY OF MUSIC

As the Handel and Haydn Society celebrates its Bicentennial year, now is a great time to help us “plan a legacy of music” to ensure our future. Arranging a planned gift supports the future of H+H’s performances and outreach activities, including music education in our community.

By remembering the Handel and Haydn Society in your long-term plans, such as through a bequest in your will, a charitable gift annuity, a charitable trust, or a gift of life insurance or retirement plan assets, you create a legacy that will foster excellence in music for future generations. More than 10,000 students throughout Greater Boston benefit from our educational programs each year. By joining the 1815 Society we can preserve our ability to offer high-quality musical programming for concertgoers and students of the future.

1815 Society gifts accrue to the general endowment or may be used to benefit specific programs. It is easy to designate the Handel and Haydn Society as a beneficiary in your estate. Life income gifts, like charitable gift annuities, provide you with added financial benefits. Often these gifts allow you to make a larger charitable gift than you thought possible.

The simplest way to make a planned gift is a charitable bequest, a gift made through your estate. By naming the Handel and Haydn Society as a beneficiary in your will, you can leave a specific dollar amount or a percentage of your estate. You can also leave life insurance, stock, an IRA, real estate, or personal property. We encourage you to work closely with your financial advisors to determine the most advantageous estate plan for you. If you are considering making a charitable bequest through your Will or Living Trust, some sample provisions to use as examples are provided below.

For more information about including H+H in your Will or Living Trust, or if you have already provided for the Handel and Haydn Society in your estate plans, please contact Mike Peluse, Director of Development, at 617-262-1815 or mpeluse@handelandhaydn.org.

Recently, the Handel and Haydn Society launched a brand new development program that will be mutually beneficial for donors and H+H. We now accept Charitable Gift Annuities (CGAs). These special contributions enable donors to make a gift now, receive income for life, and ultimately provide H+H with a wonderful gift.

H+H accepts two kinds of Charitable Gift Annuities. Donors aged 70 and older can establish a regular CGA and receive a fixed quarterly annuity payment starting immediately. A deferred gift annuity option is available for donors aged 65 and older. With this type of annuity, the income is deferred until age 70 or later and the annuity rates may be higher.

Use our gift calculator to see a personal illustration of the income and tax benefits you may receive by establishing a CGA with H+H.

We invite you to join a growing number of donors who have chosen to provide future support for generations of concertgoers to come. As our way of showing respect and gratitude to those generous donors who remember H+H in their estate plans, we have formed the 1815 Society. We know that by providing for deferred gifts, including bequests, beneficiary designations, and charitable gift annuities, these donors have found a place for H+H alongside family, friends and other loved ones. For this, we are very grateful.

When you become a member of the 1815 Society, you will receive updates on H+H news, special invitations to events, listings in our concert programs, and acknowledgement in our annual reports.

We invite you to consider your own legacy gift and to become a 1815 Society member. If you have already included the Handel and Haydn Society in your estate plan, please let us know. It would be our great pleasure to welcome you to the 1815 Society and you may start enjoying member benefits. Please contact Mike Peluse, Director of Development, at 617-262-1815 or mpeluse@handelandhaydn.org.
