Joshua Ellicott, tenor
In 2012, Joshua Ellicott made his triumphant H+H debut in Bach’s St. Matthew Passion as the Evangelist, a role that he will reprise this season. Born in Manchester, England, Ellicott read music at York University before continuing his vocal studies at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, where he won a full scholarship from the Countess of Munster Musical Trust to study with Adrian Thompson on both the Postgraduate Vocal Studies and Opera courses.
In demand at home and abroad as a concert singer, Ellicott works regularly with the UK’s leading orchestras and ensembles, including The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the BBC Concert Orchestra, the Academy of St. Martin in the Fields, and the Binchois Consort. He has made numerous recordings for the BBC, including a live broadcast from the Barbican Center of Copland’s opera The Second Hurricane, conducted by Leonard Slatkin.
Ellicott’s most recent performance with the Handel and Haydn Society was in last season’s presentation of Handel’s Samson, where he performed the title role.
