Widely regarded as his masterpiece work, Haydn’s The Creation is a keystone in the canon of classical music. The oratorio, premiered in 1798, depicts the creation of the world, following the book of Genesis and inspired by the Book of Psalms and Milton’s epic poem Paradise Lost. H+H premiered this work in the US in 1819, and this score arranged for the pianoforte or organ by Muzio Clementi was published in 1827 by H+H.

In 1831, the Handel and Haydn Society was still in its early years. At this time H+H published many small books, hymnals, and collections of music. This hymnal, printed in 1831 (2nd edition), was used in church as a tool of devotional practice. Its facsimile (1st edition) is included in this sacred package, to allow further study of the historical reverence of the works.
