Colleen McGary-Smith
CELLO, VIOLA DA GAMBA
Colleen McGary-Smith enjoys an active and varied performing career on historical and modern cello, as well as viola da gamba. Colleen is a member of the Handel and Haydn Society, Boston Baroque, Tutti Bassi, and performs with many other freelance groups in the Boston area and beyond. Colleen is also an avid cello and chamber music instructor. She currently teaches at Concord Academy, Powers Music School, and the Indian Hill School of Music. Colleen can be heard on the Telarc, Linn and Coro labels as well as on a WGBH live recording.
She completed her pre-college studies at the Eastman School of Music and received her Bachelor of Music degree from Cleveland Institute of Music and a Master of Music degree from Boston University School for the Arts. Her major influential cello studies were with Alan Harris, Richard Aaron, Andres Diaz, and Phoebe Carrai.
