Knowing when to lead, when to follow, and when to act together can be a game changer. With “technique to burn” (The Australian), cello soloist Nicolas Altstaedt takes the lead and the H+H Orchestra follows and responds in cello concertos by Haydn and C.P.E. Bach. Haydn’s Farewell Symphony takes this idea in an unexpected direction: at its premiere, musicians followed one another off the stage to express their shared desire to return home, a tradition H+H will recreate. C.P.E. Bach’s Sinfonia in E-flat showcases collaboration throughout as individual instruments contribute to a larger whole.
