171st Handel's Messiah
NOV 29 + 30 + DEC 1 at Symphony Hall
For the 171st consecutive year, H+H brings Boston together with the magic of Messiah, the greatest story ever told in song. This much-loved music fills Symphony Hall with new joy and passion in the voices of the H+H Chorus and Artistic Director Jonathan Cohen reprises his “seismic” rendition of this iconic celebration (The Boston Globe) alongside superstar soloists including Jeanine De Bique, “one of the most exciting sopranos to catch onstage these days” (OperaWire). Without a doubt, this is Boston’s must-see Messiah.
The Tradition of Messiah
Messiah has become synonymous with Christmas celebrations in the United States and abroad. In Boston, the Handel and Haydn Society has performed Messiah during the Christmas season every year since 1854. Messiah around the holidays has now become one of Boston's favorite traditions. Each year, H+H's performances of Handel's Messiah attract over 6,000 audience members to Boston’s Symphony Hall. Our incredible Orchestra and Chorus embraces historically-informed interpretations of this masterwork (performing in ways that Handel himself would have found familiar), as well as all Baroque and Classical repertoire, to bring new and refreshing performances to our audiences.
Baroque Christmas
DEC 19 + 22 at NEC's Jordan Hall
Help yourself to a healthy dose of holiday cheer at our annual Baroque Christmas, an evening of musical merriment. Led by conductor Ruben Valenzuela, a rising star “well known for his masterful Baroque music interpretations” (The San Diego Union-Tribune), this yearly Yuletide celebration features a sleighful of new gifts to cherish—including four pieces from the Latin American Baroque, evoking the tranquil Nativity before bouncing with boundless joy.
