David Thomas Mather

BARITONE

Praised for his “strikingly subtle" and "eloquently versatile voice" (Boston Music Intelligencer), David Thomas Mather is a sought-after interpretor of J.S. Bach who embraces a wide body of repertoire, including early Baroque, German Lieder, oratorio and musical theatre. Pursuing an active solo career, David was most recently featured as Aeneas in Dido's Ghost by Errollyn Wallen with Emmanuel Music, and originated the role of Octavian in The Onion by Eric Sawyer, a new sci-fi opera exploring memory and technology. Other soloist appearances include BWV 123, Carl Orff's Carmina Burana, the St. John & St. Matthew Passions, Handel's Messiah, BWV 106 Actus Tragicus, BWV 140, and John Eccles' Macbeth. ​As an ensemble singer, he enjoys performing regularly with Emmanuel Music, Capella Clausura, the Handel and Haydn Society, Nightingale, the Henry Purcell Society of Boston, the Marsh Chapel Choir at Boston University, and the Choirs of Trinity Church. David holds a BM in Vocal Performance with a Minor in Theatre from DePauw University, a Master of Music degree in Historical Performance, Voice and a Graduate Performance Diploma in Chamber Music from the Longy School of Music of Bard College. When he isn't singing, you can find David doing graphic and web design, playing Dungeons and Dragons, and mixing cocktails for friends at home.
