Motomi Tanaka

SOPRANO

Motomi Tanaka is a versatile soprano whose performances span repertoire from early music to contemporary works. Recent solo appearances include the North American premiere of the opera The White Fox, performances with the OMNI Ensemble, the Baroque Ensemble at the Princeton Festival, and the Pipe Organ Promenade Concert at Saitama Arts Theater in Japan, among others. She was a finalist in the Linn Maxwell Keller Distinguished Bach Musician Award Competition. An avid ensemble singer, Motomi often performs with Musica Sacra, the Clarion Choir, and the Handel and Haydn Society Chorus. She has also appeared with the Choir of Trinity Wall Street, VOCES8, Upper Valley Baroque, and the New York Philharmonic. Prior to relocating to Boston, she was a member of the Cathedral Choir of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City. Motomi holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree and maintains a private teaching studio in the Boston area. Her research interests include transpacific music modernism, gender and music, and folk songs.
