"As a clarinetist, I don't figure in most of the H+H programming. But a truly memorable experience was both among the earliest in the orchestra's foray into "early music", and one of the most recent; I refer to the Mozart re-write of Handel's "Acis & Galatea", which adds a pair of clarinets to the wind section with some astonishingly beautiful results. We performed and recorded the Mozart version under Christopher Hogwood in the late 80s, so it was quite wonderful to re-visit the work this year under Nicholas McGegan in a version choreographed by Mark Morris. Amazing to see how the orchestra has grown, and a delight once again to experience the genius of these two composers side by side."
