

Dirk Wels
CONTRABASSOON
Dirk Wels, a native of Weimar, Germany, enjoys a diverse performing career on modern and historical and bassoons and contrabassoons as well as flutes and recorders. Before relocating to New York City, he pursued studies in Berlin and later in Luxembourg, where he was principal bassoon of the Orchestre de Chambre de Luxembourg for four years. Dirk has played with ensembles such as Bacchanalia Baroque, Baroquelyn, Camerata New York, Chamber Orchestra of New York, Distinguished Concerts Orchestra, Delaware Symphony, Double Entendre Music Ensemble, Garden State Philharmonic, Greater Bridgeport Symphony, La Fiocco, New England Symphonic Ensemble, New York Baroque Incorporated, Norwalk Symphony, Trinity Baroque Orchestra, Queens Consort and Washington Square Festival Orchestra. This season will mark his debut performances as contrabassoonist with Tafelmusik Baroque Orchestra Toronto and Boston's Handel and Haydn Society.
