When the final note of a superb performance of Mozart’s Masonic Funeral Music by Boston’s Handel and Haydn Society had finished echoing through Symphony Hall, the respectful silence was broken by the lone voice of a young boy who, sounding appropriately amazed, simply said “Wow!”

They are some of the best classical musicians in the country. But at one recent performance by The Handel and Haydn Society in Boston, the most memorable moment didn’t come from anyone on stage at Symphony Hall. It came from the audience, right at the very end of Mozart’s Masonic Funeral Music.
