The Performance Committee of the Portsmouth Athenaeum is pleased to announce that Boston’s acclaimed Handel and Haydn Society is coming to Portsmouth to celebrate the City’s 400th. This program of music by Bach, Vivaldi, and others will feature concertmaster Aisslinn Nosky, principal flute, Emi Ferguson, and principal keyboardist Ian Watson.

H+H will perform Bach’s Brandenburg Concertos 2, 3, 4 and 5 as well as the popular Concerto for Violin and Oboe.

Marvel as the period instrument virtuosi of H+H perform a program of baroque trio sonatas by Henry Purcell, J.S. Bach and George Frideric Handel, revealing the music’s original freshness and vitality and a creativity that inspires all ages.

Handel’s iconic Messiah is a treasured holiday tradition that will be performed by the incomparable Handel & Haydn Society in a special chamber arrangement for 13-member chamber orchestra and chorus led by Associate Conductor Ian Watson.  The Yankee Magazine hails that “The Handel and Haydn Society’s Messiah remains unmatched.”
