H+H double bassist Heather Miller Lardin, Amelia Peabody Chair reveals her top concert picks for 2025–26 Season

Not sure which concerts to choose in our 2025–26 Season? Don't worry– H+H double bassist Heather Miller Lardin has got you covered!

Heather shares her top picks for the season’s must-see performances and what she's looking forward to in the music.

Beethoven Symphony no. 7: oct 24 + 25 at symphony hall

As a double bassist, I had to include this concert. Beethoven symphonies are in our bones. My favorite moment would be the opening of the allegretto: a simple low-string rhythm and yearning melody in the cellos that will give you goosebumps every time. I also love that Beethoven is paired with Rameau, whose music is equally rich and powerful in a totally different way.

Handel's Water MusicAPR 10 + 12 at symphony hall

Is there anything more fun than natural horns? I really don't think so.There is so much sheer joy in this program. Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 1 and Handel's Water Music feel like a party on stage! In addition, Lully's incidental music for "Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme" is charming–a rare treat.

Bach + Telemannmay 15 + 16 at Old South Church + Sanders Theatre

To me, this is the most compelling program of the season. Three intense and deeply moving cantatas explore death, rebirth, and redemption. The haunting sound of two violas da gamba, instruments sometimes connected musically to death and mourning, are featured in both BWV 106, Gottes Zeit ist die allerbeste Zeit and Telemann's Du aber Daniel gehe hin. I'm looking forward to playing them very much.
